I love feedback. Whoever you are, feel free to e-mail me at the "Contact" link. I have a lot of projects that are not on the main site that I only link to people on my mailing list. If you want to be on the list, e-mail me.

A Necessary Death
I produced this feature-length film that premiered recently at SxSW. The synopsis goes something like this: "Documentary Filmmaker looking for suicidal individual to follow from first preparation to final act." Cut from 142 video tapes, this project sheds light on the tragedy following the infamous internet ad.

Frank & Cindy
This is my feature directing debut, a documentary about my hilarious, tragic, talented, addicted, frustrating, lovely, lovely parents. It was featured on This American Life, and is in the process of being adapted into a scripted film.

LeFrog
This song is a recorded improvisation by Kent Cyclone, and the video was created entirely using Google image search. The text in the video represents what was put into google, in quotes. "LeFrog" is slang for "Laphroaig;" a potent, complex scotch that tastes somewhere between burnt wood and leather.

Goods (Its All in Your Head)
I made this video originally as a joke, but once the band put it on their website, I decided to try to make it more than just me dancing in my room for five minutes. So I shot some more footage and tried to expand on the original idea. If you want to see the original version click here.

Jollyship the Whiz-Bang (AKA Jolly Ship the Whizbang, etc...)
Nick Jones, Raza Azar, and I have been working on this thing for quite some time. Whenever I go to NYC we shoot a little more and I piece it together. Next time I get there I'm going to finish the Greenland Episode and maybe move on to the next one.

Krispy Kreme
There are two versions of this spot... the gratuitous 60 second and the race car 30 second. I'm interested to hear opinions as to which is better. The shorter spot can be viewed here.

How We Do
This was shot entirely on DV, a lot of which was home-video footage taken by Matt Sims himself. I took what he gave me and tried to develop a concept using nothing more than editing and cheap tricks. The idea was that every single sound would correspond to a specific visual effect. I then shot additional footage and spent weeks editing.

George's Bones
This video is yet uncompleted. I am waiting for a fully mixed version of the song with all the instruments. The edit will probably change when I get the song, but for now I figured I'd put it online. The video was shot on Super 8 in a barn in Woodstock. Much of the lighting was done with a high-powered flashlight that I held in my left hand while shooting with my right. Thus the out-of-control elements of this video are not entirely intentional. Hanging the band members by their ankles was no picnic either.

Fluke
The Mates of State are one of my all-time favorite bands and I jumped at the chance to do a video even though there was no budget. I flew to New Haven with a couple cameras and no idea what I was going to do. I ended up combining footage from a broken 16mm camera with video feedback loops I created by pointing my camera at a television. Despite all my efforts their cat stole the show.

This Isnt It
This video was my first foray into the world of Super 8mm film. It was shot at the Silver Lake Lounge and in my bedroom. It's particularly amusing to see it on the Filter Magazine music video DVD with the likes of Tom Jones, the Crystal Method, and various other big budget videos.

My Stepfather's Only Contribution To The Human Race
This was actually created by my stepfather, but I gave it a new intro and put it here because it's required viewing.
